Nashville, also known as Music City is a great place to take that next vacation.  There are lots of attractions and activities to fill a quick weekend getaway or a longer trip.

When most people think of Nashville, they think of eating hot chicken and the country music mecca.  While these things are important aspects of Nashville, there are many other interesting things to do.  In fact, Nashville is known as the “Athens of the South.”

Even if you are the type of person to take the road less traveled, when vacationing, you must visit and experience all of the attractions that Nashville is known for.  While some of these places seem “cliché,” they are an intricate part of what makes Nashville so special.

Here is a list of the must-see attractions in Nashville:

1) Ryman Auditorium

If you know anything about Nashville, you have certainly heard of Ryman Auditorium.  Country music fans refer to this venue as the “mother church of country music.”  The church portion of this name refers to its original intended use, as the home of the Union Gospel Tabernacle Church.  Built in 1892, it has a rich music history that even housed the Grand Ole Opry once upon a time.

Locals of Nashville and visitors should be sure to stop by this important landmark.  Many singers dream of being able to perform on the stage.  The acoustics are unparalleled allowing singers to sound better than ever.  Take a look at their website to find a show during your vacation.

If you are visiting Nashville, be sure to see if Ryman has any shows during your stay.  It is definitely worth the price of admission.  You may even want to inquire about a backstage tour.

2) Lower Broad/Broadway

Nothing will make you want to move to Nashville more than a visit to Lower Broad, as the older generation calls it. These charming streets are a tribute to Bourbon Street in New Orleans with a country twist.

While this area has changed in recent years to less honky-tonk two-step to more upscale bars owned by famous singers and celebrities, there is still so much charm.  If you are looking for Old School Nashville, be sure to visit Robert’s Western World to partake in some classic western swing.

3) Soundwaves

Soundwaves is a waterpark unlike anything you have ever experienced before.  Located at the Gaylord Opryland Resort, the Soundwaves features great lazy rivers, fun adult bars, and even giant movie screens that can be enjoyed while lounging at the pool.  It has large slides and some great cabanas used for relaxing.

The waterpark was designed for guests of the hotel to use, but it allows locals and visitors to use the amenities for a small fee.  They offer party packages, discounted room rates, and day passes.  You truly will feel like you have entered a dream vacation on your afternoon at Soundwaves.

4) The Band Box

If you like baseball, delicious food, and music, then be sure to take in a game at The Band Box.  This is one of the coolest places to enjoy watching the minor league team, the Nashville Sounds.

One of the best parts of The Band Box is the food.  These are not your run of the mill concessions, but rather gourmet versions of hot dogs, hamburgers, and fries.  They also have great salads, fritters and even empanadas.  Chefs prepare the food upon order to ensure the highest quality and freshness.  You can even request table service, if desired.

5) The Grand Ole Opry

The Grand Ole Opry is a live radio show that has been around since the year 1925.  It hosts a variety of performers from a myriad of genres.  These include gospel singers, country singers, and bluegrass performers.

Visiting the Grand Ole Opry is about as Nashville as you can get.  Shows happen frequently, usually on Friday, Saturday, with an extra show on Tuesday night.  Be sure to check out their website for ticket information.

During the majority of the year, the shows are recorded at the Opryhouse.  This is located in Music Valley.  However, if you visit Nashville during the holiday season, the shows are recorded at their original home, Ryman Auditorium.

This list of 5 Nashville attractions, literally only scratches of the surface of what the area has to offer.  Nashville truly is home to some of the best music, delicious food, and interesting history.  Visiting Nashville is an experience that you will never forget.
